Faceted bi-folding door sets in an idyllic setting
In 2003 a retired Architect, a founding partner of Bowker Sadler Partnership Limited, saw the potential offered by this plot in the most idyllic of locations at Portmellon in Cornwall.
For several years prior to building works commencing, the Architect holidayed in a mobile home on the site, whilst trying to obtain planning approval for a new dwelling. Matters were not straightforward due to the land being within an Area of Outstanding Beauty, part of the Heritage Coast and outside the Development Envelope for Mevagissey. Due to the site's proximity to the cliff and coast, planning permission was a lengthy and expensive process.
The design and subsequent name of this unique property was inspired by the coastal setting and the waves of the sea and in 2011 work began on The Wave House. In 2012 the owners were able to move in to this stunning home.
Several suppliers of folding sliding doors and screens were considered although not many companies were able to offer curved, also known as faceted folding sliding door sets.
The Architect owner provided Sunfold with CAD drawings and fully dimensional steelwork details and as stated ‘The result……………everything fitted perfectly to within the 5mm tolerances allowed for in Sunfold’s installation, which was carried out with utmost professionalism and attention to detail'.
The amazing property boasts 5 sets of glass screens with 24 panels in total. The doors incorporate fully weathered tracks to provide the maximum weather protection and most suitable for a location such as this. The gorgeous views of Mevagissey Bay can be admired from the upper level living rooms and the sun terraces.
